The last was lucky, his descendaned ended with holding in Italy. I'd been trying for Blood of Bagrat but the last 3 members of the line let themselves die without heirs rather than coming to my court despite repeated attempts. Also acquired these non-histoical ones:
Meanwhile was working on and off on moving the Empire to Hellenic. Got a crazy ruler who became Hellenic. He set in motion the secert cult which failed but establsihed converts. A second attempt by the cult left a small handful of Hellenic provinces but failed because I didn't have enough provinces to reform and the Emporer switched to Catholic on me. The last attempt worked. Declared independance from the Empire while holding Edessa (in Greece not Asia Minor), Alexandria and Pireus. All converted to Hellenic. Didn't have enough piety to reform declared war for the holy site in Sicily and after getting some allies on Rome. Once all 5 were taken reformed the religion.
The new Poxtifex Maximus almost immediatly declared a Great Holy War for Italy which I won.
